1 ἐν ἔτει ἑπτακαιδεκάτῳ Φακεε υἱοῦ Ρομελιου ἐβασίλευσεν Αχαζ υἱὸς Ιωαθαμ βασιλέως Ιουδα 2 υἱὸς εἴκοσι ἐτῶν ἦν Αχαζ ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτὸν καὶ ἑκκαίδεκα ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησεν τὸ εὐθὲς ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς κυρίου θεοῦ αὐτοῦ πιστῶς ὡς Δαυιδ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ 3 καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδῷ Ιεροβοαμ υἱοῦ Ναβατ βασιλέως Ισραηλ καί γε τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ διῆγεν ἐν πυρὶ κατὰ τὰ βδελύγματα τῶν ἐθνῶν ὧν ἐξῆρεν κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ 4 καὶ ἐθυσίαζεν καὶ ἐθυμία ἐν τοῖς ὑψηλοῖς καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν βουνῶν καὶ ὑποκάτω παντὸς ξύλου ἀλσώδους 1 It was in the seventeenth year of Phacee, son of Romelia, that Achaz, son of Joatham, came to the throne of Juda. 2 He was twenty years old when he began his reign, which lasted at Jerusalem for sixteen years. This Achaz did not obey the Lord’s will like his ancestor David before him; 3 he followed the example of the Israelite kings, even consecrating his son by passage through the fire, after the idolatrous wont of those nations which the Lord drove out to make room for Israel. 4 Never a high hill or a mountain-slope or a leafy wood but Achaz must do sacrifice and offer incense there. 1 Anno decimoseptimo Phacee filii Romeliæ, regnavit Achaz filius Joatham regis Juda.
6 (It was then that Rasin recovered Ailam for Syria, by driving the men of Juda out from it; but the Edomites came and took possession of it, and it remains theirs to this day.[1]) 7 Thereupon Achaz sent a message to the Assyrian king, Theglath-Phalasar; Bring aid, master, to thy servant, father, to thy son; rescue me from the assault of Syria and Israel; 8 gifts, too, he sent him, collecting all the silver and gold that was to be found in temple or palace. 9 Nor was the king of Assyria unwilling; he marched on Damascus and laid it waste, carrying off the inhabitants to Cyrene and putting Rasin to death.[2] 5 Tunc ascendit Rasin rex Syriæ, et Phacee filius Romeliæ rex Israël, in Jerusalem ad præliandum: cumque obsiderent Achaz, non valuerunt superare eum.
10 καὶ ἐπορεύθη βασιλεὺς Αχαζ εἰς ἀπαντὴν τῷ Θαγλαθφελλασαρ βασιλεῖ Ἀσσυρίων εἰς Δαμασκόν καὶ εἶδεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον ἐν Δαμασκῷ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Αχαζ πρὸς Ουριαν τὸν ἱερέα τὸ ὁμοίωμα τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου καὶ τὸν ῥυθμὸν αὐτοῦ εἰς πᾶσαν ποίησιν αὐτοῦ 11 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν Ουριας ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ θυσιαστήριον κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Αχαζ ἐκ Δαμασκοῦ 12 καὶ εἶδεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἀνέβη ἐ{P'} αὐτὸ 13 καὶ ἐθυμίασεν τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν θυσίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν σπονδὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ προσέχεεν τὸ αἷμα τῶν εἰρηνικῶν τῶν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον 14 καὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ χαλκοῦν τὸ ἀπέναντι κυρίου καὶ προσήγαγεν ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ οἴκου κυρίου ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ οἴκου κυρίου καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸ ἐπὶ μηρὸν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου κατὰ βορρᾶν 15 καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς Αχαζ τῷ Ουρια τῷ ἱερεῖ λέγων ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ μέγα πρόσφερε τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν τὴν πρωινὴν καὶ τὴν θυσίαν τὴν ἑσπερινὴν καὶ τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τὴν θυσίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ τὴν θυσίαν αὐτῶν καὶ τὴν σπονδὴν αὐτῶν καὶ πᾶν αἷμα ὁλοκαυτώσεως καὶ πᾶν αἷμα θυσίας ἐ{P'} αὐτὸ προσχεεῖς καὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ χαλκοῦν ἔσται μοι εἰς τὸ πρωί 16 καὶ ἐποίησεν Ουριας ὁ ἱερεὺς κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεὺς Αχαζ 10 When king Achaz went to meet Theglath-Phalasar at Damascus, he saw there an altar, of which he sent a likeness with a full account of all its workmanship, to the high priest Urias; 11 and Urias built an altar in accordance with all the directions Achaz had sent him from Damascus, to greet his return. 12 Returned from Damascus, Achaz went to see it and did reverence to it;[3] then went up to make burnt-sacrifice and meal-offering; 13 poured libations, and shed the blood of his welcome-offerings there. 14 Then he removed the brazen altar, that stood ever in the Lord’s presence opposite the tabernacle, away from its place between the new altar and the temple, to the north side of the new altar. 15 And king Achaz bade the high priest Urias bring to this greater altar the morning burnt-sacrifice and the meal-offering at nightfall; here king and people would present burnt-sacrifice and meal-offering and libations, here the blood of the burnt-sacrifice and all other offerings was to be spilt; as for the altar of bronze, it should await the king’s good pleasure. 16 And the high priest Urias carried out all his bidding. 10 Perrexitque rex Achaz in occursum Theglathphalasar regis Assyriorum in Damascum: cumque vidisset altare Damasci, misit rex Achaz ad Uriam sacerdotem exemplar ejus, et similitudinem juxta omne opus ejus.
17 καὶ συνέκοψεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Αχαζ τὰ συγκλείσματα τῶν μεχωνωθ καὶ μετῆρεν ἀ{P'} αὐτῶν τὸν λουτῆρα καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν καθεῖλεν ἀπὸ τῶν βοῶν τῶν χαλκῶν τῶν ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν ἐπὶ βάσιν λιθίνην 18 καὶ τὸν θεμέλιον τῆς καθέδρας ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου καὶ τὴν εἴσοδον τοῦ βασιλέως τὴν ἔξω ἐπέστρεψεν ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου ἀπὸ προσώπου βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων 17 King Achaz also took away the moulded stands and the smaller basins that rested on them; took away the oxen that supported the great basin and let it rest on a stone pavement instead; 18 altered, too, the sabbath porch he had built in the temple, and the outer part of the royal entry.[4] Of all these changes in the temple building the king of Assyria was the cause.
19 καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων Αχαζ ὅσα ἐποίησεν οὐχὶ ταῦτα γεγραμμένα ἐπὶ βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν τοῖς βασιλεῦσιν Ιουδα 20 καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Αχαζ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν πόλει Δαυιδ καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Εζεκιας υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀν{T'} αὐτοῦ 19 What else Achaz did, all his history, is to be found in the Annals of the kings of Juda. 20 So he was laid to rest with his fathers, with the Keep of David for his burying-place, and the throne passed to his son Ezechias.
