1 καὶ κύριος ἐπεσκέψατο τὴν Σαρραν καθὰ εἶπεν καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος τῇ Σαρρα καθὰ ἐλάλησεν 2 καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν Σαρρα τῷ Αβρααμ υἱὸν εἰς τὸ γῆρας εἰς τὸν καιρόν καθὰ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ κύριος 3 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αβρααμ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ τοῦ γενομένου αὐτῷ ὃν ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ Σαρρα Ισαακ 4 περιέτεμεν δὲ Αβρααμ τὸν Ισαακ τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἡμέρᾳ καθὰ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ ὁ θεός 5 Αβρααμ δὲ ἦν ἑκατὸν ἐτῶν ἡνίκα ἐγένετο αὐτῷ Ισαακ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ 6 εἶπεν δὲ Σαρρα γέλωτά μοι ἐποίησεν κύριος ὃς γὰρ ἂν ἀκούσῃ συγχαρεῖταί μοι 7 καὶ εἶπεν τίς ἀναγγελεῖ τῷ Αβρααμ ὅτι θηλάζει παιδίον Σαρρα ὅτι ἔτεκον υἱὸν ἐν τῷ γήρει μου 1 And now, true to his undertaking, the Lord visited Sara and fulfilled his promise; 2 old as she was, she conceived and bore a son at the very time God had foretold. 3 To this son whom Sara had borne him, Abraham gave the name of Isaac, 4 and circumcised him, as God had commanded, when he was eight days old. 5 He himself was then a hundred years old; so great an age had he reached before Isaac was born to him. 6 And Sara cried out, God has made me laugh for joy; whoever hears of this will laugh (Isaac) with me. 7 Who would have thought, she added, that Abraham would ever be told, Sara is nursing a son, born to thee in thy old age? 6 Dixitque Sara: Risum fecit mihi Deus: quicumque audierit, corridebit mihi. 7 Rursumque ait: Quis auditurus crederet Abraham quod Sara lactaret filium, quem peperit ei jam seni?
8 καὶ ηὐξήθη τὸ παιδίον καὶ ἀπεγαλακτίσθη καὶ ἐποίησεν Αβρααμ δοχὴν μεγάλην ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἀπεγαλακτίσθη Ισαακ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ 9 ἰδοῦσα δὲ Σαρρα τὸν υἱὸν Αγαρ τῆς Αἰγυπτίας ὃς ἐγένετο τῷ Αβρααμ παίζοντα μετὰ Ισαακ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς 10 καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Αβρααμ ἔκβαλε τὴν παιδίσκην ταύτην καὶ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτῆς οὐ γὰρ κληρονομήσει ὁ υἱὸς τῆς παιδίσκης ταύτης μετὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ μου Ισαακ 11 σκληρὸν δὲ ἐφάνη τὸ ῥῆμα σφόδρα ἐναντίον Αβρααμ περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ 12 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῷ Αβρααμ μὴ σκληρὸν ἔστω τὸ ῥῆμα ἐναντίον σου περὶ τοῦ παιδίου καὶ περὶ τῆς παιδίσκης πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπῃ σοι Σαρρα ἄκουε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐν Ισαακ κληθήσεταί σοι σπέρμα 13 καὶ τὸν υἱὸν δὲ τῆς παιδίσκης ταύτης εἰς ἔθνος μέγα ποιήσω αὐτόν ὅτι σπέρμα σόν ἐστιν 14 ἀνέστη δὲ Αβρααμ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ ἔλαβεν ἄρτους καὶ ἀσκὸν ὕδατος καὶ ἔδωκεν Αγαρ καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ἐπὶ τὸν ὦμον καὶ τὸ παιδίον καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτήν ἀπελθοῦσα δὲ ἐπλανᾶτο τὴν ἔρημον κατὰ τὸ φρέαρ τοῦ ὅρκου 15 ἐξέλιπεν δὲ τὸ ὕδωρ ἐκ τοῦ ἀσκοῦ καὶ ἔρριψεν τὸ παιδίον ὑποκάτω μιᾶς ἐλάτης 16 ἀπελθοῦσα δὲ ἐκάθητο ἀπέναντι αὐτοῦ μακρόθεν ὡσεὶ τόξου βολήν εἶπεν γάρ οὐ μὴ ἴδω τὸν θάνατον τοῦ παιδίου μου καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἀπέναντι αὐτοῦ ἀναβοῆσαν δὲ τὸ παιδίον ἔκλαυσεν 17 εἰσήκουσεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ παιδίου ἐκ τοῦ τόπου οὗ ἦν καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ἄγγελος τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν Αγαρ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ τί ἐστιν Αγαρ μὴ φοβοῦ ἐπακήκοεν γὰρ ὁ θεὸς τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ παιδίου σου ἐκ τοῦ τόπου οὗ ἐστιν 18 ἀνάστηθι λαβὲ τὸ παιδίον καὶ κράτησον τῇ χειρί σου αὐτό εἰς γὰρ ἔθνος μέγα ποιήσω αὐτόν 19 καὶ ἀνέῳξεν ὁ θεὸς τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῆς καὶ εἶδεν φρέαρ ὕδατος ζῶντος καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἔπλησεν τὸν ἀσκὸν ὕδατος καὶ ἐπότισεν τὸ παιδίον 20 καὶ ἦν ὁ θεὸς μετὰ τοῦ παιδίου καὶ ηὐξήθη καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐγένετο δὲ τοξότης 21 καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Φαραν καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτῷ ἡ μήτηρ γυναῖκα ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου 8 The boy grew, and was weaned; on the day of his weaning, Abraham made a great feast, 9 and Sara found the son of the Egyptian woman, Agar, mocking her own son Isaac.[1] Whereupon she said to Abraham, 10 Rid thyself of this slave-woman and her son; it cannot be that the son of a slave should divide the inheritance with my own son, Isaac. 11 At this Abraham was greatly distressed on his son’s behalf; 12 but God said to him, Do not take it to heart so, the boy’s lot and the lot of thy slave; attend to all Sara’s bidding, for indeed it is through Isaac that thy posterity shall be traced. 13 As for the slave’s child, I will make him, too, the founder of a great nation; he too is thy son. 14 So, when he rose next morning, Abraham fetched some bread and a bottle of water, which he put on her shoulder, and bade her take the boy and begone. Thus she left him, and soon she was wandering to and fro in the desert of Bersabee. 15 At last all the water in the bottle was spent, and she left the boy under one of the trees there, 16 while she went and sat down opposite where he was, at a bow-shot’s distance; I cannot bear to see my child die, she said. And there, sitting opposite him, she wept aloud. 17 But God had listened to the child’s crying, and now his angel called to Agar out of heaven. Agar, he said, what ails thee? Do not be afraid, God has listened to the crying of thy child, where he lies yonder. 18 Up, and take thy child with thee, hold him fast by the hand; I will make him the founder of a great nation yet. 19 With that, God gave clear sight to her eyes, and she saw a well that had water in it; to this she went, and filled her bottle, and gave the boy drink. 20 Thenceforward, God was with him; he grew up, and made his dwelling there in the wilderness, and became a great archer. 21 It was in the desert of Pharan that he dwelt, and the wife his mother chose for him was an Egyptian. 15 Cumque consumpta esset aqua in utre, abjecit puerum subter unam arborum, quæ ibi erant.

At Bersabee, Abraham made a plantation, and invoked there the name of the Lord God eternal. 34 And for a long time he dwelt on alien soil, in the country of the Philistines.
