1 καὶ ἔστησεν Δαυιδ ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς δυνάμεως εἰς τὰ ἔργα τοὺς υἱοὺς Ασαφ καὶ Αιμαν καὶ Ιδιθων τοὺς ἀποφθεγγομένους ἐν κινύραις καὶ ἐν νάβλαις καὶ ἐν κυμβάλοις καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ ἀριθμὸς αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν ἐργαζομένων ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτῶν 2 υἱοὶ Ασαφ Ζακχουρ καὶ Ιωσηφ καὶ Ναθανιας καὶ Εραηλ υἱοὶ Ασαφ ἐχόμενοι Ασαφ τοῦ προφήτου ἐχόμενοι τοῦ βασιλέως 3 τῷ Ιδιθων υἱοὶ Ιδιθων Γοδολια καὶ Σουρι καὶ Ισαια καὶ Σεμεϊ καὶ Ασαβια καὶ Ματταθιας ἕξ μετὰ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν Ιδιθων ἐν κινύρᾳ ἀνακρουόμενοι ἐξομολόγησιν καὶ αἴνεσιν τῷ κυρίῳ 4 τῷ Αιμανι υἱοὶ Αιμαν Βουκιας καὶ Μανθανιας καὶ Αζαραηλ καὶ Σουβαηλ καὶ Ιεριμωθ καὶ Ανανιας καὶ Ανανι καὶ Ηλιαθα καὶ Γοδολλαθι καὶ Ρωμεμθ{I-}ωδ καὶ Ιεσβακασα καὶ Μαλληθι καὶ Ωθηρι καὶ Μεαζωθ 5 πάντες οὗτοι υἱοὶ τῷ Αιμαν τῷ ἀνακρουομένῳ τῷ βασιλεῖ ἐν λόγοις θεοῦ ὑψῶσαι κέρας καὶ ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τῷ Αιμαν υἱοὺς δέκα τέσσαρας καὶ θυγατέρας τρεῖς 6 πάντες οὗτοι μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν ὑμνῳδοῦντες ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου ἐν κυμβάλοις καὶ ἐν νάβλαις καὶ ἐν κινύραις ἐχόμενα τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Ασαφ καὶ Ιδιθων καὶ Αιμανι | 1 Next, David and his captains set apart the sons of Asaph, Heman and Idithun to give praise with harp and zither and cymbals, each fulfilling their appointed office in turn. 2 The sons of Asaph, Zacchur, Joseph, Nathania and Asarela were under the direction of their father, that took his commands from the king. 3 The six sons of Idithun, Godolias, Sori, Jeseias, (Semeias),[1] Hasabias and Mathathias, were under the direction of their father Idithun, that played the harp while they sang the Lord’s praise. 4 Heman’s sons were called Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, Jerimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, Romemthiezer, Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir and Mahazioth. 5 This Heman was the king’s seer, interpreting the divine utterance to him; and God had made him the proud father of all these;[2] fourteen sons he gave him and three daughters. 6 Thus were the sons of Asaph, Idithun and Heman marshalled, at the king’s express order, for their temple service of making music with cymbals, harp and zither. | 1 Igitur David et magistratus exercitus segregaverunt in ministerium filios Asaph, et Heman, et Idithun, qui prophetarent in citharis, et psalteriis, et cymbalis secundum numerum suum, dedicato sibi officio servientes. 2 De filiis Asaph: Zachur, et Joseph, et Nathania, et Asarela, filii Asaph: sub manu Asaph prophetantis juxta regem. 3 Porro Idithun: filii Idithun, Godolias, Sori, Jeseias, et Hasabias, et Mathathias, sex, sub manu patris sui Idithun, qui in cithara prophetabat super confitentes et laudantes Dominum. 4 Heman quoque: filii Heman, Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, et Jerimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, et Romemthiezer, et Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth: 5 omnes isti filii Heman videntis regis in sermonibus Dei, ut exaltaret cornu: deditque Deus Heman filios quatuordecim, et filias tres. 6 Universi sub manu patris sui ad cantandum in templo Domini distributi erant, in cymbalis, et psalteriis, et citharis, in ministeria domus Domini juxta regem: Asaph videlicet, et Idithun, et Heman. |

Of the rest, each had twelve more, his brethren and his sons, associated with him; their names were Godolias, 10 Zacchur, 11 Sori, 12 Nathania, 13 Bocciau, 14 Oziel, 15 Jesaias, 16 Mathaniau, 17 Semeias, 18 Asarela, 19 Hasabias, 20 Subuel, 21 Mathathias, 22 Jerimoth, 23 Hananias, 24 Jesbacassa, 25 Hanani, 26 Mellothi, 27 Eliatha, 28 Othir, 29 Geddelthi, 30 Mahazioth, 31 Romemthiezer.[3] | 7 Fuit autem numerus eorum cum fratribus suis, qui erudiebant canticum Domini, cuncti doctores, ducenti octoginta octo. 8 Miseruntque sortes per vices suas, ex æquo tam major quam minor, doctus pariter et indoctus. 9 Egressaque est sors prima Joseph, qui erat de Asaph. [1] The name Semeias has dropped out in the original text; it can be supplied from verse 17.
[2] ‘Made him the proud father’; literally, ‘lifted up his horn by making him the father’. The sense of the verse is largely uncertain, and some think there is a reference to the horn as a musical instrument, cf. Jos. 6.5.
[3] The names in verses 10-31 are here given in the same forms as in verses 2-4 above; in the original text there are several differences, Zacchur appearing as Zachur, Sori as Isari, Oziel as Isreela, Asarela as Azareel, and Subuel as Subael.
