Lauda, sterilis, quæ non paris;
decanta laudem, et hinni, quæ non pariebas:
quoniam multi filii desertæ
magis quam ejus quæ habet virum, dicit Dominus.
2
Dilata locum tentorii tui,
et pelles tabernaculorum tuorum extende:
ne parcas:
longos fac funiculos tuos,
et clavos tuos consolida.
3
Ad dexteram enim et ad lævam penetrabis,
et semen tuum gentes hæreditabit,
et civitates desertas inhabitabit.
4
Noli timere, quia non confunderis,
neque erubesces; non enim te pudebit,
quia confusionis adolescentiæ tuæ oblivisceris,
et opprobrii viduitatis tuæ non recordaberis amplius.
5
Quia dominabitur tui qui fecit te,
Dominus exercituum nomen ejus,
et redemptor tuus, Sanctus Israël:
Deus omnis terræ vocabitur.
6
Quia et mulierem derelictam et mœrentem spiritu
vocavit te Dominus,
et uxorem ab adolescentia abjectam,
dixit Deus tuus.
7
Ad punctum in modico dereliqui te,
et in miserationibus magnis congregabo te.
8
In momento indignationis abscondi
faciem meam parumper a te;
et in misericordia sempiterna misertus sum tui,
dixit redemptor tuus, Dominus.
9
Sicut in diebus Noë istud mihi est,
cui juravi ne inducerem aquas Noë ultra super terram;
sic juravi ut non irascar tibi,
et non increpem te.
10
Montes enim commovebuntur,
et colles contremiscent;
misericordia autem mea non recedet a te,
et fœdus pacis meæ non movebitur,
dixit miserator tuus Dominus.
11 ταπεινὴ καὶ ἀκατάστατος οὐ παρεκλήθης ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἑτοιμάζω σοὶ ἄνθρακα τὸν λίθον σου καὶ τὰ θεμέλιά σου σάπφειρον 12 καὶ θήσω τὰς ἐπάλξεις σου ἴασπιν καὶ τὰς πύλας σου λίθους κρυστάλλου καὶ τὸν περίβολόν σου λίθους ἐκλεκτοὺς 13 καὶ πάντας τοὺς υἱούς σου διδακτοὺς θεοῦ καὶ ἐν πολλῇ εἰρήνῃ τὰ τέκνα σου 14 καὶ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ οἰκοδομηθήσῃ ἀπέχου ἀπὸ ἀδίκου καὶ οὐ φοβηθήσῃ καὶ τρόμος οὐκ ἐγγιεῖ σοι 15 ἰδοὺ προσήλυτοι προσελεύσονταί σοι δ{I'} ἐμοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ σὲ καταφεύξονται 16 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ κτίζω σε οὐχ ὡς χαλκεὺς φυσῶν ἄνθρακας καὶ ἐκφέρων σκεῦος εἰς ἔργον ἐγὼ δὲ ἔκτισά σε οὐκ εἰς ἀπώλειαν φθεῖραι 17 πᾶν σκεῦος φθαρτόν ἐπὶ σὲ οὐκ εὐοδώσω καὶ πᾶσα φωνὴ ἀναστήσεται ἐπὶ σὲ εἰς κρίσιν πάντας αὐτοὺς ἡττήσεις οἱ δὲ ἔνοχοί σου ἔσονται ἐν αὐτῇ ἔστιν κληρονομία τοῖς θεραπεύουσιν κύριον καὶ ὑμεῖς ἔσεσθέ μοι δίκαιοι λέγει κύριος 11 Thou, the friendless, the storm-beaten, the inconsolable, shalt have a pavement of patterned stones, and thy foundations shall be of sapphire; 12 thou shalt have turrets of jasper, and gates of carved gems, and all thy boundary stones shall be jewels. 13 All thy children, then, shall be disciples of the Lord; thy children, blessed how abundantly with peace! 14 Justice shall be thy sure foundation; far from thy thoughts be all oppression, now thou hast nothing to fear, all tumult of the mind,[2] when peril is none to threaten thee. 15 Aliens that had no part with me shall come to thy side; strangers shall throw in their lot with thine.[3] 16 See where the smith blows the coals at his forge, fashioning each weapon according to its use! Who but I made him? And who but I made the slayer that goes out to destroy? 17 No weapon that is forged against thee shall go true; no voice that is raised to condemn thee, but thou shalt give it the lie. Such their lot shall be that are the Lord’s servants; such protection shall they have of me, says the Lord. 11
Paupercula, tempestate convulsa absque ulla consolatione,
ecce ego sternam per ordinem lapides tuos,
et fundabo te in sapphiris:
12
et ponam jaspidem propugnacula tua,
et portas tuas in lapides sculptos,
et omnes terminos tuos in lapides desiderabiles;
13
universos filios tuos doctos a Domino,
et multitudinem pacis filiis tuis.
14
Et in justitia fundaberis:
recede procul a calumnia, quia non timebis,
et a pavore, quia non appropinquabit tibi.
15
Ecce accola veniet qui non erat mecum,
advena quondam tuus adjungetur tibi.
16
Ecce ego creavi fabrum
sufflantem in igne prunas,
et proferentem vas in opus suum;
et ego creavi interfectorem ad disperdendum.
17
Omne vas quod fictum est contra te, non dirigetur,
et omnem linguam resistentem tibi in judicio, judicabis.
Hæc est hæreditas servorum Domini,
et justitia eorum apud me, dicit Dominus.
