Knox Bible Ad

 (A prayer. Of David.) Oratio David.
1 προσευχὴ τοῦ Δαυιδ εἰσάκουσον κύριε τῆς δικαιοσύνης μου πρόσχες τῇ δεήσει μου ἐνώτισαι τῆς προσευχῆς μου οὐκ ἐν χείλεσιν δολίοις 2 ἐκ προσώπου σου τὸ κρίμα μου ἐξέλθοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου ἰδέτωσαν εὐθύτητας 3 ἐδοκίμασας τὴν καρδίαν μου ἐπεσκέψω νυκτός ἐπύρωσάς με καὶ οὐχ εὑρέθη ἐν ἐμοὶ ἀδικία 4 ὅπως ἂν μὴ λαλήσῃ τὸ στόμα μου τὰ ἔργα τῶν ἀνθρώπων διὰ τοὺς λόγους τῶν χειλέων σου ἐγὼ ἐφύλαξα ὁδοὺς σκληράς 5 κατάρτισαι τὰ διαβήματά μου ἐν ταῖς τρίβοις σου ἵνα μὴ σαλευθῶσιν τὰ διαβήματά μου 1 Lord, to my just complaint give ear; do not spurn my cry for aid. Listen to this prayer of mine; they are no treacherous lips that make it. 2 At thy judgement seat I claim award; unerring thy scrutiny. 3 Wilt thou read my heart, drawing near in the darkness to test me as if by fire, thou wilt find no treachery in me. 4 Never have these lips been led astray by man’s evil example; still to thy law’s pattern thy warnings kept me true; 5 still in thy paths my steps were firmly planted, my feet did not stumble. 1 Exaudi, Domine, justitiam meam;
intende deprecationem meam.
Auribus percipe orationem meam,
non in labiis dolosis.
2
De vultu tuo judicium meum prodeat;
oculi tui videant æquitates.
3
Probasti cor meum, et visitasti nocte;
igne me examinasti, et non est inventa in me iniquitas.
4
Ut non loquatur os meum opera hominum:
propter verba labiorum tuorum, ego custodivi vias duras.
5
Perfice gressus meos in semitis tuis,
ut non moveantur vestigia mea.
6 ἐγὼ ἐκέκραξα ὅτι ἐπήκουσάς μου ὁ θεός κλῖνον τὸ οὖς σου ἐμοὶ καὶ εἰσάκουσον τῶν ῥημάτων μου 7 θαυμάστωσον τὰ ἐλέη σου ὁ σῴζων τοὺς ἐλπίζοντας ἐπὶ σὲ ἐκ τῶν ἀνθεστηκότων τῇ δεξιᾷ σου 8 φύλαξόν με ὡς κόραν ὀφθαλμοῦ ἐν σκέπῃ τῶν πτερύγων σου σκεπάσεις με 9 ἀπὸ προσώπου ἀσεβῶν τῶν ταλαιπωρησάντων με οἱ ἐχθροί μου τὴν ψυχήν μου περιέσχον 10 τὸ στέαρ αὐτῶν συνέκλεισαν τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν ἐλάλησεν ὑπερηφανίαν 11 ἐκβάλλοντές με νυνὶ περιεκύκλωσάν με τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν ἔθεντο ἐκκλῖναι ἐν τῇ γῇ 12 ὑπέλαβόν με ὡσεὶ λέων ἕτοιμος εἰς θήραν καὶ ὡσεὶ σκύμνος οἰκῶν ἐν ἀποκρύφοις 6 And now I cry to thee, the God who ever hearest me; turn thy ear towards me, and listen to my plea. 7 Thy mercy, thy signal mercy shew; none ever sought sanctuary at thy right hand in vain. 8 Protect me as thou wouldst the apple of thy own eye; hide me under the shelter of thy wings, 9 safe from the evil-doers who wrong me.

See how my enemies close about me mercilessly, 10 their hearts shut to pity, a boast on their lips! 11 Even now their stealthy tread closes in on me, as they watch their opportunity to bring me down; 12 treacherous as a lion that is eager for its prey, a young lion that waits hidden in its lair.
6
Ego clamavi, quoniam exaudisti me, Deus;
inclina aurem tuam mihi, et exaudi verba mea.
7
Mirifica misericordias tuas,
qui salvos facis sperantes in te.
8
A resistentibus dexteræ tuæ custodi me
ut pupillam oculi.
Sub umbra alarum tuarum protege me
9
a facie impiorum qui me afflixerunt.
Inimici mei animam meam circumdederunt;
10
adipem suum concluserunt:
os eorum locutum est superbiam.
11
Projicientes me nunc circumdederunt me;
oculos suos statuerunt declinare in terram.
12
Susceperunt me sicut leo paratus ad prædam,
et sicut catulus leonis habitans in abditis.
13 ἀνάστηθι κύριε πρόφθασον αὐτοὺς καὶ ὑποσκέλισον αὐτούς ῥῦσαι τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπὸ ἀσεβοῦς ῥομφαίαν σου ἀπὸ ἐχθρῶν τῆς χειρός σου 14 κύριε ἀπὸ ὀλίγων ἀπὸ γῆς διαμέρισον αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ζωῇ αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν κεκρυμμένων σου ἐπλήσθη ἡ γαστὴρ αὐτῶν ἐχορτάσθησαν υἱῶν καὶ ἀφῆκαν τὰ κατάλοιπα τοῖς νηπίοις αὐτῶν 15 ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ ὀφθήσομαι τῷ προσώπῳ σου χορτασθήσομαι ἐν τῷ ὀφθῆναι τὴν δόξαν σου 13 Bestir thyself, Lord; forestall him and throw him to the ground; bare thy sword, and save me from the evil-doer, 14 raise thy hand, to rescue me from the hands of mortal men! Mortal men indeed, that have all their portion here on earth; whose desires thou dost satisfy with treasures from thy store, so that their children, too, live in abundance, and leave riches for new heirs to enjoy. 15 As for me, I will come with upright heart into thy presence, and when I wake up, I shall be well content with thy likeness. 13
Exsurge, Domine: præveni eum, et supplanta eum:
eripe animam meam ab impio;
frameam tuam
14 ab inimicis manus tuæ.
Domine, a paucis de terra divide eos in vita eorum;
de absconditis tuis adimpletus est venter eorum.
Saturati sunt filiis,
et dimiserunt reliquias suas parvulis suis.
15
Ego autem in justitia apparebo conspectui tuo;
satiabor cum apparuerit gloria tua.
