1 ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυιδ τετράδι σαββάτων ὁ θεὸς ἐκδικήσεων κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐκδικήσεων ἐπαρρησιάσατο 2 ὑψώθητι ὁ κρίνων τὴν γῆν ἀπόδος ἀνταπόδοσιν τοῖς ὑπερηφάνοις 3 ἕως πότε ἁμαρτωλοί κύριε ἕως πότε ἁμαρτωλοὶ καυχήσονται 4 φθέγξονται καὶ λαλήσουσιν ἀδικίαν λαλήσουσιν πάντες οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν 5 τὸν λαόν σου κύριε ἐταπείνωσαν καὶ τὴν κληρονομίαν σου ἐκάκωσαν 6 χήραν καὶ προσήλυτον ἀπέκτειναν καὶ ὀρφανοὺς ἐφόνευσαν 7 καὶ εἶπαν οὐκ ὄψεται κύριος οὐδὲ συνήσει ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Ιακωβ 8 σύνετε δή ἄφρονες ἐν τῷ λαῷ καί μωροί ποτὲ φρονήσατε 9 ὁ φυτεύσας τὸ οὖς οὐχὶ ἀκούει ἢ ὁ πλάσας τὸν ὀφθαλμὸν οὐ κατανοεῖ 10 ὁ παιδεύων ἔθνη οὐχὶ ἐλέγξει ὁ διδάσκων ἄνθρωπον γνῶσιν 11 κύριος γινώσκει τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς τῶν ἀνθρώπων ὅτι εἰσὶν μάταιοι 1 In thy divine vengeance, Lord, in thy divine vengeance stand revealed! 2 Judge of the world, mount thy throne, and give the proud their deserts! 3 Must it be the sinners still, Lord, the sinners still that triumph? 4 Shall there be no end to the prating, the rebellious talk, the boastfulness of wrong-doers? 5 See, Lord, how they crush down thy people, afflict the land of thy choice, 6 murder the widow and the stranger, slay the orphan! 7 And they think, The Lord will never see it, the God of Israel pays no heed. 8 Pay heed, rather, yourselves, dull hearts that count among my people; fools, learn your lesson ere it is too late. 9 Is he deaf, the God who implanted hearing in us; is he blind, the God who gave us eyes to see? 10 He who gives nations their schooling, who taught man all that man knows, will he not call you to account? 11 The Lord looks into men’s hearts, and finds there illusion. 1 Deus ultionum Dominus;
Deus ultionum libere egit.
2
Exaltare, qui judicas terram;
redde retributionem superbis.
3
Usquequo peccatores, Domine,
usquequo peccatores gloriabuntur;
4
effabuntur et loquentur iniquitatem;
loquentur omnes qui operantur injustitiam?
5
Populum tuum, Domine, humiliaverunt,
et hæreditatem tuam vexaverunt.
6
Viduam et advenam interfecerunt,
et pupillos occiderunt.
7
Et dixerunt: Non videbit Dominus,
nec intelliget Deus Jacob.
8
Intelligite, insipientes in populo;
et stulti, aliquando sapite.
9
Qui plantavit aurem non audiet?
aut qui finxit oculum non considerat?
10
Qui corripit gentes non arguet,
qui docet hominem scientiam?
11
Dominus scit cogitationes hominum,
quoniam vanæ sunt.
13 For him, thou wilt lighten the time of adversity, digging a pit all the while to entrap the sinner. 14 God will not abandon his people, will not desert his chosen land; 15 ere long his justice will reappear in judgement, claiming all upright hearts for its own. 16 Who takes my part against the oppressor? Who rallies to my side against the wrong-doers? 17 It is the Lord that helps me; but for that, the grave would soon be my resting-place. 18 Still, when my foothold seems lost, thy mercy, Lord, holds me up; 19 amid all the thronging cares that fill my heart, my soul finds comfort in thy consolation. 20 What part have these unjust judges with thee, that make mischief in the name of law? 21 Let them harry the just as they will, pass sentence of death upon the innocent, 22 the Lord will be my defence, in my God I shall find a rock-fastness still. 23 He will punish the wrong, destroy them in their wickedness; doubt not the Lord our God will destroy them. 12
Beatus homo quem tu erudieris, Domine,
et de lege tua docueris eum:
13
ut mitiges ei a diebus malis,
donec fodiatur peccatori fovea.
14
Quia non repellet Dominus plebem suam,
et hæreditatem suam non derelinquet,
15
quoadusque justitia convertatur in judicium:
16
Quis consurget mihi adversus malignantes?
aut quis stabit mecum adversus operantes iniquitatem?
17
Nisi quia Dominus adjuvit me,
paulominus habitasset in inferno anima mea.
18
Si dicebam: Motus est pes meus:
misericordia tua, Domine, adjuvabat me.
19
Secundum multitudinem dolorum meorum in corde meo,
consolationes tuæ lætificaverunt animam meam.
20
Numquid adhæret tibi sedes iniquitatis,
qui fingis laborem in præcepto?
21
Captabunt in animam justi,
et sanguinem innocentem condemnabunt.
22
Et factus est mihi Dominus in refugium,
et Deus meus in adjutorium spei meæ.
23
Et reddet illis iniquitatem ipsorum,
et in malitia eorum disperdet eos:
disperdet illos Dominus Deus noster.
Laus cantici ipsi David.
